The priorities of the upcoming Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union during the first half of 2026 and issues of economic cooperation between Cyprus and Greece will be discussed by the Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, and his Greek counterpart during an official visit the former will pay to Athens.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance, the Minister departs for Athens on 24 June.
During his stay in the Greek capital, he will hold meetings with the Greek Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, as well as the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Nikos Papathanasis.
On Wednesday, 25 June at 2pm, the Finance Minister will meet with his Greek counterpart to discuss matters related to the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU during the first half of 2026. They will also address issues of bilateral economic cooperation, with particular emphasis on competitiveness and investments, and analyze challenges stemming from recent international developments, especially in the Middle East.
Further discussions will include the coordination of the two countries in leveraging European initiatives aimed at strengthening the EU’s strategic autonomy, including the SAFE program.
Earlier the same day, at 11am, the Cypriot Minister of Finance will meet with the Greek Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance to discuss Cohesion Policy and the Multiannual Financial Framework beyond 2027.
