Trade deficit shows annual increase during the January–March 2025 period

The trade deficit for the period between January–March 2025 showed an annual increase according to CySTAT.

It said that the trade deficit was €1.846,4m in January–March 2025, compared to €1.709,7m in the corresponding period of 2024.

March 2025 - Provisional data

Total imports of goods in March 2025 were €1.021,2m as compared to €828,1m in March 2024, recording an increase of 23,3%. Imports from other EU member states were €586,0m and from third countries €435,2m, compared to €567,0m and €261,1m, respectively, in March 2024. Imports in March 2025 include the transfer of economic ownership of vessels, with total value of €53,7m as compared to €9,5m in March 2024.

Total exports of goods in March 2025 were €409,0m as compared to €263,1m in March 2024, recording an increase of 55,5%. Exports to other EU member states were €102,8m and to third countries €306,2m, compared to €115,5m and €147,6m respectively in March 2024. Exports in March 2025 include the transfer of economic ownership of vessels, with total value of €35,8m as compared to €36,6m in March 2024.

Total imports of goods in January–March 2025 amounted to €3.190,5m as compared to €2.558,8m in January–March 2024, recording an increase of 24,7%. Total exports of goods in January-March 2025 were €1.344,1m compared to €849,1m in January-March 2024, registering an increase of 58,3%.

The trade deficit was €1.846,4m in January–March 2025 compared to €1.709,7m in the corresponding period of 2024.

February 2025- Final Data

Total imports of goods amounted to €1.035,4m in February 2025 as compared to €863,7m in February 2024, recording an increase of 19,9%.

Exports of domestically produced products, including stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €321,6m in February 2025 as compared to €120,5m in February 2024, recording an increase of 166,9%.

Domestic exports of industrial products, excluding stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €311,1m in February 2025 compared to €111,5m in February 2024. Domestic exports of agricultural products, excluding stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €9,5m in February 2025 compared to €7,9m in February 2024.

Exports of foreign products, including stores and provisions for ships and aircraft, were €173,0m in February 2025 as compared to €153,6m in February 2024, recording an increase of 12,6%, CySTAT said.
