Adoption of advanced technologies and modern infrastructure "more essential than ever" for businesses

The adoption of advanced technologies and modern infrastructure is more essential than ever for businesses.

Technology is evolving rapidly, continuously transforming how organisations operate. In a landscape filled with both challenges and opportunities, businesses are expected to adapt swiftly, innovate, and embrace new solutions to remain competitive. The growing demand for flexibility, security, and efficiency is leading more companies to turn to cutting-edge technologies and up-to-date infrastructure.

This was the central focus of The Software Edge Conference: IBM Driving Business Forward, where discussions explored - among other - the impact of International Business Machines (IBM) software on business transformation.

During a panel discussion, Theocharis Drakos, Co-founder of Drastyc, emphasised the importance of solid data foundations for forecasting and strategic planning. “It’s crucial for organisations to have the right data,” he said, explaining how their platform enables comprehensive data management, KPI (Key Performance Indicator) reporting, analytics, and governance, all within a single solution.

Christodoulos Christodoulou, Director of Software Development at Zebra Consultants, presented the Maximo platform, which integrates over 30 years of expertise. It offers AI-powered predictive maintenance, robust governance, and regulatory compliance support. Designed for the cloud and optimised for mobile use, Maximo gives technicians real-time data access and integrates with other IBM tools.

Stelios Hadjiionas, Enterprise Sales Manager at Newcytech Business Solutions, spoke about how the cloud is reshaping organisational strategies. “It’s not the same technology we used to know,” he noted, highlighting the need for new programming methods and skills. He emphasised that today’s infrastructures must be reliable and flexible, recommending HashiCorp’s platform for its secure and efficient open-source and enterprise tools.

Constantinos Heracleous, Manager - Enterprise Content Management Department, Datatech, discussed how artificial intelligence is revolutionising decision-making by adding speed and consistency. He clarified, however, that AI supports rather than replaces the decision-making process. “We no longer search for information traditionally. Decision-making is now guided by AI,” he said.

The session was moderated by Valia Demesticha, IBM Software Sales Manager - Greece & Cyprus.

In a fireside chat to close the thematic segment, Giorgos Tziortzis, Partner and Head of Consulting Services at EY Cyprus, joined Aggelos Vlachopoulos, Manager at IBM Technology Greece & Cyprus, to discuss one central question: “Where to start now?”

Tziortzis highlighted the high costs and investment required for global partnerships and acquiring the right skills. “We must be willing to invest, localise solutions, and solve problems,” he said. Hiring and collaboration, he noted, are now key priorities. He urged the business and tech community to take risks, understand clients deeply, and deliver value.

He concluded by noting IBM’s recent investments in solving real-world problems and emphasised EY’s efforts in developing AI-powered tools tailored to modern organisational needs.
